The Cultural Language of Food

How Cultures speak through their food.

Food is an expression of who we are, our heritage and tradition, and often evokes nostalgia of our home country or travels to foreign lands.

Food plays a key role in cultivating traditions and cultures throughout various generations. It is common theme that family, friends unite to enjoy regional dishes that speak the cultural language of the people.

Food is an essential part of the cultures of the world. Some have changed over time, others have remained the same over centuries. It is those unique dishes that speak to us, welcome us, and leave a lasting memory in our hearts.

I will share in this blog the dishes of those memories in my heart. It is the food I like to eat and that I like to feed my family and friends. These recipes come from different inspirations, different places, and each one of them represents happy experiences.

Mostly these dishes are direct copies from memories of childhood favorites: Things my grandmother fed me, things I like to eat with friends in happy times. These are the food memories I want to share with my children, along with some good inspiration I always get from friends and travels.

“The Italians and Spanish, the Chinese and Vietnamese see food as part of a larger, more essential and pleasurable part of daily life. Not as an experience to be collected or bragged about – or as a ritual like filling up a car – but as something else that gives pleasure, like music, or a good nap in the afternoon.”
